Tax judgments against developers

TAX JUDGMENTS in excess of €500,000 have been registered against two developers involved in a property row at The Square in Tallaght, Dublin.

According to the current issue of Stubbs Gazette, judgments in the amount of €585,742.67 have been registered against both Thomas McFeely, who came to prominence as an IRA hunger striker in 1980, and his business partner Larry O’Mahony.

The plaintiff in each case was the collector general.

Both judgments were registered at an address at 1, Holles Street, Dublin 2.

In July, ACCBank secured a summary judgment order for €6.2 million against Mr McFeely. This was over non-repayment of a commercial development loan issued in 2005.

The judge had made a similar order against Mr O’Mahony over the same loan.

The pair are also embroiled in another legal row relating to the delay of a planned €300 million extension of The Square shopping centre in Tallaght.

Along with fellow embattled developer Liam Carroll, Mr McFeely and Mr O’Mahony are being sued by solicitor and developer Noel Smyth for €140 million in damages at the Commercial Court.

Mr Smyth’s company, Redfern, alleged that the two businessmen broke a deal with Redfern for the redevelopment of The Square and “double dealt” with Mr Carroll, who had a rival development in Tallaght.

Both of the businessmen live in the Dublin 4 suburb of Ballsbridge, with Mr McFeely residing on Ailesbury Road and Mr O’Mahony on Shrewsbury Road.
